Sydney Care Support celebrating its first anniversary in Sydney in 2026

Sydney Care Support Turns One: Celebrating Our First Year Supporting Sydney’s Disability Community

Sydney Care Support is officially ONE! 🎉💙

September 2026 marks a very special milestone for our team: Sydney Care Support (SCS) is celebrating its first birthday.

What began with a simple vision—to provide meaningful, respectful and person-centred disability support—has grown into a community of participants, families, support workers, coordinators and professionals who have become part of the Sydney Care Support journey.

Our first year has brought growth, learning, challenges, achievements and, most importantly, opportunities to make a meaningful difference in people’s everyday lives.

Today, we’re taking a moment to celebrate how far we’ve come—and to thank everyone who helped us get here.

From a Vision to Sydney Care Support

Sydney Care Support began with a belief that disability support should be about much more than completing a list of tasks.

It should be about the person.

Every participant has different routines, preferences, goals, interests, cultural backgrounds and support needs.

From the beginning, we wanted SCS to be a disability support provider where people could feel:

  • Heard
  • Respected
  • Included
  • Comfortable
  • Supported to make their own choices
  • Encouraged to build independence
  • Connected with their community

That philosophy continues to guide how we approach our services today.

Our First Participant to a Growing SCS Community

Every organisation remembers its first client.

For us, welcoming our very first participant was much more than the beginning of providing services.

It represented someone trusting a new organisation to become part of their support network.

From there, our community gradually grew.

Over our first year, we have had the opportunity to support more people across Sydney while developing relationships with participants, families, carers, support coordinators, support workers and other professionals within the disability community.

Every participant has also taught us something.

Their experiences have helped us better understand what people value from their support workers, how important consistency can be, and why good disability support needs to adapt around the individual rather than expecting the individual to adapt around the provider.

What Does Sydney Care Support Do?

Sydney Care Support provides a range of disability and NDIS support services across Sydney, depending on participant needs, funding arrangements, location and service availability.

Our services include:

Assistance with Daily Living

Supporting participants with everyday activities and routines while encouraging independence wherever possible.

Personal Care

Respectful assistance with personal activities based on the participant’s individual needs, dignity and preferences.

Domestic Assistance

Helping participants maintain their home environment through practical household support.

Meal Preparation

Supporting participants with meal planning, preparation and everyday kitchen activities.

Social & Community Participation

Supporting participants to get out into their community, participate in activities, pursue interests and develop greater confidence.

Transport Assistance

Helping eligible participants access activities, appointments and community opportunities according to their support arrangements.

Life Skills Development

Supporting participants to build practical everyday skills that may increase confidence and independence.

For us, these aren’t simply service categories.

Behind every service is a person with their own goals.

The Moments That Matter Most

Some of the most meaningful achievements from our first year can’t be measured with numbers.

They’re found in everyday moments.

It might be supporting someone to participate in a community activity they enjoy.

It could be helping a participant develop confidence completing an everyday task.

Sometimes it’s preparing a meal together.

Other times it’s getting out into Sydney, trying a new activity, participating in a creative project or simply having someone reliable there when support is needed.

These everyday experiences remind us why Sydney Care Support was created.

Support should help people participate in their lives—not take over their lives.

Building Genuine Connections

One of the strongest lessons from our first year has been the importance of connection.

Finding a support worker isn’t only about filling an available shift.

A participant may have preferences relating to:

  • Personality
  • Communication
  • Interests
  • Culture
  • Language
  • Gender
  • Experience
  • Availability
  • Support style

When possible, understanding these preferences can help create better and more comfortable support relationships.

Our goal as SCS continues to be building services around the individual rather than applying the same approach to everyone.

Growing Our Team

As Sydney Care Support has grown, so has our team.

Support workers are at the heart of disability services.

They’re the people who spend time with participants in their homes and communities and help turn support plans into real everyday experiences.

During our first year, we’ve continued developing our workforce and strengthening the systems behind our services.

As we enter our second year, this remains an important priority.

We want SCS to grow responsibly while maintaining the personal approach that shaped the organisation from the beginning.

A Special Shout-Out to Our Director, Neda 💙

This milestone wouldn’t be complete without recognising the person whose vision helped bring Sydney Care Support to life.

A very special shout-out goes to our Director, Neda.

From establishing SCS and welcoming our first participant to growing the team, developing relationships within the community and navigating the many responsibilities involved in building a disability support organisation, Neda has been at the heart of the journey.

Building a business from the ground up takes determination.

Building one in the disability sector also carries an enormous responsibility toward the people who place their trust in the organisation.

As a woman in business, reaching SCS’s first anniversary is a milestone worth celebrating.

But this is only the beginning.

Sydney Care Support 2026 Australian Women's Small Business Champion Awards finalist certificate for Disability Support Services Small

An Award-Worthy First Year

Our first year became even more memorable when Sydney Care Support was recognised as a finalist in the Disability Support Services – Small category at the Australian Women’s Small Business Champion Awards 2026.

To receive this recognition during our first year of operation was an incredibly meaningful milestone for our team.

For a young organisation, being recognised alongside other Australian businesses reinforces our commitment to continue building SCS with care, professionalism and purpose.

And for our Director, Neda, it represents an especially meaningful achievement as a woman building and leading a growing Sydney disability support organisation.

More Than an Award

Awards are exciting, but they aren’t what defines the quality of disability support.

The relationships behind the recognition matter much more.

Every:

participant who trusted us

family who welcomed us

support worker who represented SCS

coordinator who connected with our team

professional who collaborated with us

community member who supported our journey

has contributed to where Sydney Care Support is today.

Our first birthday belongs to all of them too.

Learning During Our First Year

Starting and growing SCS has also been a learning journey.

The disability and NDIS landscape continues to evolve, and providers have a responsibility to keep learning.

During our first year, we have continued developing our understanding of:

  • Participant rights and choice
  • Safe service delivery
  • Feedback and complaints
  • Incident management
  • Risk management
  • Privacy and information handling
  • Worker responsibilities
  • NDIS changes and reforms
  • Quality improvement

We believe good organisations should never reach a point where they think there is nothing left to improve.

Listening, reviewing and improving will continue to be part of SCS’s journey.

Helping Participants Understand a Changing NDIS

Another important part of the Sydney Care Support website has become NDIS education.

The NDIS is undergoing significant reform, and participants and families are regularly faced with new terminology, rules and announcements.

Through the SCS blog, we have been publishing easy-to-understand information about topics including:

  • NDIS funding
  • Plan reassessments
  • Funding periods
  • Plan renewals
  • Community participation
  • NDIS pricing changes
  • Changes of circumstances
  • NDIS reforms

Our goal isn’t to replace official NDIA advice.

Instead, we want to help make important information easier to understand and direct readers to official sources where appropriate.

As we move into our second year, this educational content will continue to grow.

What We’ve Learned From Participants

Our participants remain some of our greatest teachers.

One lesson stands above almost everything else:

There is no single definition of good support that works for everybody.

For one person, good support might mean having assistance to prepare meals independently.

For another, it might mean having someone alongside them while accessing the community.

Another participant might value consistency above everything else.

Someone else may want support that helps them gradually do more independently.

Person-centred support starts with understanding those differences.

Looking Ahead: Sydney Care Support’s Second Year

Turning one isn’t the finish line.

It’s the beginning of our next chapter.

As Sydney Care Support enters its second year, our focus remains on:

Quality over simply growing quickly.

We want to continue developing a reliable team and delivering services that participants feel comfortable using.

Listening to participants.

Feedback—both positive and constructive—helps us improve.

Building meaningful community connections.

Disability support should help create opportunities for participation and inclusion.

Keeping participants informed.

We’ll continue publishing useful information about important NDIS developments.

Continuing to improve.

Our policies, processes, training and service delivery will continue evolving as SCS grows.
