Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about the Support at Home program
and how it affects your aged care services.

What is the Support at Home program?

Support at Home is Australia’s new aged care system replacing Home Care Packages and CHSP.
It provides one simplified, flexible program so older people can get the right level of help to stay safely independent at home.
Services include personal care, domestic help, transport, social support, nursing, home maintenance and more.

A My Aged Care assessor will complete your assessment and assign you a Support at Home Classification Level (1–8) based on your needs.
Each level has a set quarterly budget that you can use with your approved provider.
Sydney Care Support can help you understand your level and plan your services.

Your budget can be used for most services that help you remain safe, independent and socially connected at home, including:

  • Personal care

  • Domestic assistance

  • Nursing

  • Transport

  • Social and community participation

  • Meal preparation

  • Home safety modifications

  • Allied health (as eligible)

We work with you to build a personalised care plan.

Will I have to pay anything myself?

Possibly — it depends on your financial situation.
Under the Support at Home program, clients may have a small co-contribution towards their services, usually based on:

  • Pension status

  • Income

  • Agreed service rates

Sydney Care Support always provides clear pricing upfront and can help you apply for financial hardship support if eligible

Yes — you can change providers at any time.
If you’re unhappy with your current provider or they have not transitioned properly to Support at Home, we can help you:

  1. Understand your current services

  2. Support you through the transfer process

  3. Build a new care plan

  4. Start services quickly with no interruption to your support

  5. Notify My Aged Care of your provider change

Home Care Packages (HCPs) are being transitioned into Support at Home.
You will not lose support — instead, your package will be mapped to a Support at Home classification level that reflects your needs.
Sydney Care Support will guide you through the transition and ensure your services continue smoothly.
